Whenever <strong>feature layer<\/strong> is mentioned below, the same can be achieved using a <strong>feature layer view<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step 1 &#8211; Create a report and choose a feature layer<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On the Report Builder home page, click the arrow to the right of the <strong>New Report<\/strong> button. Then click the <strong>from Feature Layer<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Choose feature layer<\/strong> window will open. This will list web maps according to the option selected at the top of the window. For this tutorial, click the <strong>All<\/strong> option and type &#8216;BRFSS US States Demo Data&#8217; into the search box.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/help.reports.esriuk.com\/report-builder\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2023\/07\/rb-2-6-feature-layer-choose.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11726 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/help.reports.esriuk.com\/report-builder\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2023\/07\/rb-2-6-feature-layer-choose.png\" alt=\"Choose feature layer window\" width=\"837\" height=\"1023\" srcset=\"https:\/\/help.reports.esriuk.com\/report-builder\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2023\/07\/rb-2-6-feature-layer-choose.png 837w, https:\/\/help.reports.esriuk.com\/report-builder\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2023\/07\/rb-2-6-feature-layer-choose-245x300.png 245w, https:\/\/help.reports.esriuk.com\/report-builder\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2023\/07\/rb-2-6-feature-layer-choose-768x939.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 837px) 100vw, 837px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Click on the &#8216;US_States_Data&#8217; feature layer to select it and click the <strong>Choose<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step 2 &#8211; Choose ID\/name fields<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Feature ID field<\/strong> \u2013 the attribute field in the base layer for the report that will provide the IDs for the features in the layer. The values in this field should be unique and should be short strings of alphanumeric characters that do not contain special characters (as the IDs are used to build URLs). If you add further data sources to the report, these will also need to contain a field with the same values so that the data can be joined to the correct features. It is therefore important that you think about and choose the correct ID field for your report <em>before<\/em>\u00a0you start adding data to widgets.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Feature name field<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 the attribute field in the base layer for the report that will provide the names for the features in the layer. These will be the feature names used in the report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You should now tell Report Builder which fields in the layer contain the IDs and the names for the states. In the <strong>Feature ID field<\/strong> box choose the &#8216;ST_FIPS&#8217; field and in the <strong>Feature name field<\/strong> box choose the &#8216;STATE_NAME&#8217; field. We will start by adding a title at the top of the report. In the <strong>Widgets menu <\/strong>to the left of the report, click the <strong>Text<\/strong> heading to expand this group of widgets. The widget is selected, meaning that it is highlighted with a dotted border and the widget toolbar is displayed in the top left corner. Click the <strong>Edit text &amp; rules<\/strong> button in widget toolbar (first on the left). The text editor toolbar will appear. The example text should selected by default (blue) but if not, press <strong>Ctrl+A<\/strong> on your keyboard to select the text. Press the <strong>Delete <\/strong>key on your keyboard to delete the text.<\/p>\n<p>Now type &#8216;Demo report for &#8216; and then click the <strong>Insert feature value<\/strong> button (second row, forth from the left) in the text editor toolbar that displays above the widget. Click the <strong>Feature Names(s)<\/strong> option. If you wish, you can switch the active feature by clicking the <strong>View<\/strong> option. This can be found near the bottom of the Report Builder main menu on the far left. You will see that the feature name in the text widget will change. Click the view option to display the list of features in the base layer of the report, in this case the states in the USA. If you click to select a different state, you will see that the title of the report automatically updates.<\/p>\n<p>To make the text look more like a title, click on the text widget in the report to select it and click the <strong>Edit text &amp; rules<\/strong> button once again. Select the text by pressing <strong>Ctrl+A<\/strong> on your keyboard. Click the <strong>Blocks<\/strong> button (top row, sixth from the right) in the text editor toolbar and click <strong>Heading 1<\/strong>. Click the <strong>Save<\/strong> button at the very top of the editor screen, to the right of the report name. This button displays a purple dot if the report has unsaved changes and this dot will disappear once you click the button. When building a report, it is good practice to click the <strong>Save<\/strong> button at frequent intervals to minimize the chance of losing your work if, for example, a network issue occurs.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step 5 &#8211; Add a Data Table widget to your report<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>You can now add further widgets to your report to display data about the states. If the <strong>Widgets <\/strong>menu is no longer displayed, click <strong>Widgets<\/strong> in the Report Builder main menu on the far left. Click the <strong>Tables<\/strong> heading to expand this group of widgets. Drag a <strong>Data Table<\/strong> widget onto the page below the text widget. By default, the table will show the active feature in a row and a random selection of fields from the report&#8217;s base layer in the columns.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/help.reports.esriuk.com\/report-builder\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2023\/07\/rb-2-6-feature-layer-table1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11728\" src=\"https:\/\/help.reports.esriuk.com\/report-builder\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2023\/07\/rb-2-6-feature-layer-table1.png\" alt=\"Feature layer report with table added\" width=\"1012\" height=\"383\" srcset=\"https:\/\/help.reports.esriuk.com\/report-builder\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2023\/07\/rb-2-6-feature-layer-table1.png 1012w, https:\/\/help.reports.esriuk.com\/report-builder\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2023\/07\/rb-2-6-feature-layer-table1-300x114.png 300w, https:\/\/help.reports.esriuk.com\/report-builder\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2023\/07\/rb-2-6-feature-layer-table1-768x291.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1012px) 100vw, 1012px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Data &amp; Settings <\/strong>panel to the right of the report displays the data and settings for the widget selected in the report, in this case the data table. Click the <strong>Data<\/strong> tab. This will display a single data source &#8211; the layer you selected when you created the report (US_States_Data). Click the data source to view the attribute fields. Click the <strong>Select no indicators<\/strong> button at the top of the <strong>Data<\/strong> tab (second button from the left) to deselect all fields. Then click the checkboxes for &#8216;1990_POP&#8217;, &#8216;2000_POP&#8217; and &#8216;2010_POP&#8217; and click <strong>Apply<\/strong>. These fields contain the population figures for 1990, 2000 and 2010. The <strong>Set indicator aliases and order<\/strong> window will open. Type in a friendly name for each of the indicators, such as &#8216;1990 population&#8217;, &#8216;2000 population&#8217; and &#8216;2010 population&#8217;. Then click the <strong>Save<\/strong> button. This field contains figures on the percentage change in population from 2000 to 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Then click the <strong>Settings<\/strong> tab. If the <strong>Advanced <\/strong>button at the top of the tab (first button on the left) does not have a purple dot, click the button &#8211; this will ensure that advanced as well as basic settings are displayed in the panel.<\/p>\n<p>Click the <b>Behavior<\/b>\u00a0heading to expand this settings group, locate the<strong> Include all areas<\/strong> setting and turn this on. Click the <strong>Series<\/strong> heading, locate the <strong>Type<\/strong> setting and tick the <strong>indicators-as-series<\/strong> checkbox. Click the <strong>Bars<\/strong> heading, locate the <strong>Sort bars by value<\/strong> setting and tick the <strong>ascending<\/strong> checkbox. Click the <b>Axes <\/b>heading, locate the <strong>Allow label word wrap<\/strong> setting and turn it off. Click the <b>Colors &amp; Highlights <\/b>heading, locate the <strong>Highlight selected feature<\/strong> setting and turn it on. Click the <strong>Legend<\/strong> heading, locate the <strong>Show legend<\/strong> setting and turn this off. Click the <strong>Text &amp; Labels<\/strong> heading, locate the <strong>Title<\/strong> setting and type in &#8216;Population change from 2000 to 2010&#8217;. Now save the report.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step 7 &#8211; Preview your report<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>To preview your report, click the <b>Preview <\/b>button at the very top of the Report Builder editor screen, next to the report name. In the <strong>Report<\/strong> menu, click <strong>Embed &amp; share<\/strong>. By default a report can only be viewed and edited by the owner. To change this, click the link to the item page. In ArcGIS Online, you can use the Share button on the item details page to share the report with your organization, everyone, or set specific group sharing. You can also change the report styling or pages options by clicking <strong>Styling<\/strong> or <strong>Pages<\/strong> in the Report Builder main menu. When you have finished, click <strong>Report<\/strong> in the main menu and click <strong>Exit editor<\/strong> to return to the home page.<\/p>\n<p>You may want to create a new report using a different feature layer.
